Paddington Motivational Poster

Paddington Brown, titular character of the Paddington books and film series, is always a bright, shining beam of hope and comfort. Wanting to embody that coziness and encouragement, I made this motivational poster for a class project.

After brainstorming a handful of ideas and after dozens of thumbnails, I settled on this concept and this design. It was executed in Adobe Illustrator and pushed me to use techniques involving patterns and warping that I don’t tend to use in my day-to-day. I also decided early on to add texture to each piece to give it a sort of construction paper look and feel.

An added challenge to this design was that we were not to exceed 6 colors in our file. Initially, I thought this would be near impossible as Paddington is a renowned character with a very specific color palette, but by layering pieces, changing blending modes and opacities, I managed to stay at 6 colors while keeping the signature Paddington exactly how people recognize him.
